Jeez people.
It's like we're all in a car crash and time has seemingly slowed to a crawl. This can happen during profoundly consequential moments. Unfortunately, as the events around us appear to stretch out, our mouths are somehow able to speed up. Our ability to share memes is in competition with light to be big fat winner of the velocity sweepstakes.
It's as though we can share elaborate prognostications on what the crack in the windshield growing one centimeter due north-east portends for the eventual landing of the car. The scenery is inching by in slow motion, but technology allows the memes to flow and grow like we're all on crack and helium at the same time.
I'm in the car too, and I'm guilty as well.
Take this for example:
I've been informed here that today's news out of the White House about GM and Chrysler is the biggest union busting move in history!
Really? Obama a union buster? Isn't it more likely that...
...he is setting up a takeover of the US auto industry to further his not so secret and very stated belief that we need a strong, green, manufacturing industry in this country?
Let's let this thing play out for 24 hours before coming to conclusions.
This is absolutely crazy, but I read a commentary that made some sense to me - get this - on Red State. Those interested in the GM takeover who believe it is anti-worker, will be inspired to read it.
I don't disagree too much with the author, except to say what he thinks is a bad thing, I think is a good thing.
Here's a key paragraph:
And then there’s the UAW. They are in fact the beginning and the end of the government’s interest in General Motors. They will come out of this as the big winners. Never mind that the average automaker earns half again as much in wages and benefits as the average American. UAW boss Ron Gettelfinger, with CEO Obama at his side, will announce "deep, painful concessions" to be suffered by the union membership

Hey, it's another point of view.
I keep thinking to myself - everywhere I look online, on tv, in print, it seems everyone is pissed at everything Obama does. Yet, his poll numbers remain high.
That tells me Change has come to Washington.
